Hello. Anyone know which of the next 2 CPUs have more kn/s by using stockfish chess engine ?
AMD Ryzen 9 7950x
or
AMD Ryzen 9 7950x3d

Question about kn/s of 2 AMD CPUs
For chess the Ryzen 9 7950x is faster.
And a bit safer to operate, haha.

Question about kn/s of 2 AMD CPUs
With nostalgia I saw this thread and I went to an American website based in several countries and that has always found hardware information through test benches, etc. 20 years ago I first had a dual opteron, then a few years using Intel's extreme version to go to a dual xeon. Currently AMD Zen 4 offers us a cpu with a 5mm lithography. And DDR5 required, unlike the third generation. And to the question for chess, what is the best architecture, 20 years ago I would have said PC because I was hooked on overclocking, but now without any doubt I can say that either a workstation or a rack server with a dual socket, although I advise against it. This last option because of the tremendous noise they make. AMD vs Intel? Well, in my opinion, AMD has always been ahead in terms of architecture, until the core duo arrived. This in destkop. Omar and Marco have threadthipper which are workstation CPUs but with a high price. In fact I couldn't believe some prices. But they are not EPYc Milan who knows. Well the issue is not AMD, Intel, but a correct configuration of all the components of the computer starting with the chassis. And of course, not PC. Because second-hand you find servers that perform exceptionally well with chess programs. Not to mention the nnue. Since before with a dual xeon the PCs could hardly do anything, and now a core i3 gen4 beats a dual xeon. Although, given all that has been said, you can perfectly buy a PC and assemble it in pieces. But it's not all chess. We have to think about what use we will give it. Regarding the question of the kn, Marco has already told you about it. From Zen 4 compared to Zen 3 there is a 15% improvement in performance, but at the cost of using brutal clock frequencies. And that's not good for daily play either. Having said that, be careful when you buy, because in some cases they sell an Intel Gen 12 at the same price as a Gen 13, etc.
I am not an expert in anything, I do not believe in anything, but everything is possible.

The 7950X should be faster so far, obviously by a small margin as Marco said. You can check here:

But you have done this with that test bench. It is clear that the gain in bandwidth with the use of DDR5 is notable. But overall, if you do a battery of varied benchmarks, especially in multithreading, you can't beat it. Be careful, there are several models, there is one that costs more than 4000 euros. And with that I get on a plane. hehehhehe.. But in any case, the qualitative leap with the reduction of lithography, am5, DDR5 is more reasonable than any core i9 gen13. Of course, you need good refrigeration, the ones that come from stock are not usually highly recommended. And thermal paste, artic silver, always.EmptikBest wrote: ↑30/09/2023, 13:35, consumer CPU ahead of a 24-Core ThreadripperIbaiBuR wrote: ↑30/09/2023, 12:31 The 7950X should be faster so far, obviously by a small margin as Marco said.
